Anglican Church of St Heliers Bay and Glendowie

St Philip’s Church is celebrating it’s 125th anniversary

To mark this special occasion, St Philip’s is launching the

Foundation For the Future

St Philip’s has been ministering to the people of the St Heliers and Glendowie community for 125 years.

As we reflect on and give thanks for the significant contributions given by those who went before us, we plan to establish a fund which can ensure the sustainability of that ministry into the future.

Currently, as well as ministering to our own parishioners, we support youngsters and their families in the community through our mainly music programme and the elderly through our communion services at the local retirement villages.

We have a wider influence through our outreach programme which supports the following organisations:

¨ Anglican Trust for Women and Children

¨ Auckland City Mission

¨ “Feed my Lambs” in Kaitaia

¨ St Mary’s Church in Glen Innes

¨ Rev’s Joel and Hinemoa Carpenter in Glen Innes

¨ Chip Packet Project NZ

In the future we want to be able to grow the  support we can offer as well as being a role model in sustainability in reducing our impact on the planet.

The Foundation for the Future would provide resources to address St Philip’s needs whether they be in further staffing for targeted ministry or in improving our facilities to benefit the community and the planet.

For example our first project, to reflect our care for God’s creation and provide for ministry in the future, is to install solar panels at St Philip’s.

Our mission, as an Anglican Worldwide Communion, is guided by five marks of mission and The fifth mark asks us to strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth.

This call, combined with our Diocese’s challenge to us to respond to the current climate crisis, and the reduction of future electricity costs, has led to this exciting decision.

Future projects will be undertaken by our Foundation for The Future so stay tuned.

St Philip’s may have played an important role in your life in the past and/or is continuing to do so now in the present.
